Sam Silkworth- Owner
"The road is something to embrace. We need to open our eyes, hearts, and ears to the world, make up our own minds for experience. Be inspired, see life in angles, in lines of perspective. A slight turn of the head, the blink of an eye, subtle glimpses of magic other folk might pass by. Cameras help me translate, interpret and understand what I see. It’s a simple act that keeps me grin’n. I never set out to become anything in particular, only to live creatively and push the scope of my experience for adventure and passion."

For as long as I can remember I always had the utmost satisfaction in the sound of a shutter-click taking in laughter. I would stitch together the clips of my childhood summers, attempting to capture emotion and energy through music and editing. It was all for me and my friends, smiles making more smiles.
As a young college student setting off to Boulder, Colorado I didn't know what to expect to find other than beauty and I found a whole new culture and world. I not only started a new life with entirely new amazing people but I was opened up to a place where I could see my dreams coming true. I acquired an intense love for music and culture. Engulfed in the heart of the college live music scene I attended shows every weekend; I was opened up to all my favorite bands, new genres, and an amazing community which now are some of the closest things to my heart.
After my first year in Colorado I set off to Queenstown, New Zealand for an entirely new adventure. I used my first summer as a college student for exploration of the unexpected. With my broken DSLR in hand, my passion for photography exploded in this new world. I took every single picture in Manual for the next three months (and for a year afterwards with my broken camera), I explored an empty countryside and new cities and tried to capture the feelings in my heart. I traveled to places deemed as the eighth wonder of world and it flipped my world upside down (literally look at my pictures of mirror lakes). One of the coolest adventures of my life and I can't wait to return.
My second year studying Entrepreneurship at CU Boulder I started to build my photography business, Silky Shots. I continued to attend concerts and eventually became more involved in the music scene; sneaking my camera into countless festivals and shows and meeting some of my heroes and mentors. Editing more and more pictures and videos always trying to push my creativity. I started hanging up posters for my favorite local venues, The Fox and Boulder Theatre. Eventually becoming the house photographer for the venues (Z2 Entertainment) and shooting countless acts and as winter began I moved up to Breckenridge Colorado and started working as an Epic Mix Photographer.

I started to expand my photography into my other passion; skiing. I was capturing the Experience of a Lifetime for thousands of guests. Greeting and approaching guests with the intent of offering our professional photographic services, composing and shooting candid photos as well as more formal family ski portraits and action shots. This job made my day to day photography more passionate when working with people and I take pride in capturing the highest quality images possible.

Recently I have been running back and forth across soccer stadiums like a maniac and I dance my way through 25,000 thick at Bassnectar to get "hella' sick ones dude". I'm looking through my viewfinder or at a tiny screen if I wanna do my best for you guys ;] and you all know I also got to make time to get down. I love it. because these pictures can really take me back to some of the best times with the best people in my life. Live music and all the full hearted humans I have met from this interconnected web is such a huge part of my life. If a scroll through one of my albums fills you with countless memories, takes you back to the best weekend of your life at a music festival, or just another great night of music in Colorado; tell a friend about my page and this website. It may have a similar effect on someone I have never met, but will probably, eventually, from this live music web. From there on out I hope the story can be told though my photos and my albums on my Facebook page and I hope this website serves as a view into some of that work and a way to become a part of the creative path of my life. Thanks for reading. - Sam Silky. Summer 2016.
"All of it means something to me, although same as most anyone with dreams. These things i photograph are where my heart bleeds hardest. I try to pay tribute to those rare glimpses of magic each season, each day. I want to see life documented the way I see it in my head and the way I feel it in nature. It’s a strange skill to try and acquire and only achievable through time. All sorts of time on all sorts of crafts. Lots of time spent learning lots of time spent changing. In nature, I have always learned something and music as well always leaves me with life long lessons.
…Being coaxed from comfortable routine, igniting the imagination, conveying some divine spark. Whispering the possibilities, conjuring the situations I thrive to document. I never want to take this life for granted. I try to keep motivations simple, real, positive. If there’s no future in it, make this is a present worth remembering. For fires of happiness or waves of gratitude… for everything that brought us to that point in life, to that moment in time to do something worth remembering with a photograph or a scar. I feel genuinely lucky to live where I do and have the experiences which I have. To have these wonderful people in my life. I may never be a rich man but if I live long enough, I’ll certainly have a tale or two for those who will open their eyes and ears. And I dig the thought of that."
